WHEN MENTORING HELPS

Leadership can be difficult in isolation.

You do not need to be struggling. Mentoring can help when the role is changing, the stakes are higher or you want an experienced view before taking the next step.

  • You have moved into a CTO, VP Engineering or technical leadership role.
  • A people, delivery or technology decision would benefit from an independent perspective.
  • You need to communicate more effectively with founders, executives or the board.
  • The team is growing and your own role needs to change with it.
  • You want regular space to step back from immediate demands and think ahead.

YOUR ROLE, YOUR CONTEXT

Support shaped around the leader.

Sessions can follow the challenges in front of you or work towards agreed leadership goals. We focus on practical thinking and action, not a fixed coaching script.

Decisions & trade-offs

Work through difficult choices, surface assumptions and consider the likely consequences before committing the team or business.

Leading people

Explore delegation, accountability, feedback and the situations that become harder as a team grows or responsibilities change.

Role & priorities

Clarify where your attention adds the most value, what to stop carrying personally and how to create space for longer-term leadership.

Stakeholder influence

Prepare for conversations with founders, peers, investors or boards. Make technical context and recommendations easier for others to act on.

Teams & delivery

Think through team design, leadership layers, product relationships and delivery concerns without jumping to a fashionable structure or process.

A specific challenge

Use focused sessions around a new role, restructure, hiring decision, difficult programme, incident or other time-bound leadership situation.

Mentoring is confidential within the terms we agree. It is not therapy, regulated professional advice or a substitute for your organisation’s formal HR and governance responsibilities.

WHAT YOU TAKE AWAY

Better equipped for what comes next.

The value is not a set of generic answers. It is stronger judgement, clearer action and growing confidence in how you lead.

  1. Decisions considered from more than one angle.

A confidential place to test your reasoning, identify blind spots and decide what evidence or conversation is needed next.

  2. Practical actions between sessions.

Clear next steps grounded in the situation you are facing, with space to review what happened and adapt your approach.

  3. Leadership capability that stays with you.

Patterns, questions and ways of working that strengthen your own judgement rather than making you dependent on an external answer.

HOW WE WORK

Bring the challenge. Build the habit.

We agree what useful support looks like, establish a rhythm that fits your role and keep the conversation focused on the situations that matter.

  1. 01 / ALIGN

    Understand you and the role.

Discuss your responsibilities, context, immediate challenges and what you want from mentoring. Agree confidentiality, cadence, boundaries and cost.

  2. 02 / EXPLORE

    Think beyond the first answer.

Use each session to examine a live decision or leadership theme, challenge assumptions and identify a practical way forward.

  3. 03 / APPLY

    Learn from what happens next.

Take agreed actions into the role, review the outcome and use what you learn to strengthen future decisions and leadership habits.

A FEW PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

Before we start.

Who is mentoring for?

It can support CTOs, VPs of Engineering, engineering managers, technical leads and people moving into those responsibilities. The important point is that you manage technology decisions, technical resources or the people who deliver them.

Can we focus on one specific challenge?

Yes. You can arrange focused support for a decision or period of change, or establish regular sessions for broader development and an ongoing sounding board.

Is this the same as fractional CTO support?

No. Mentoring helps you carry your own role; fractional leadership takes agreed responsibility within the business. If the need changes, we will make that distinction and scope any different work explicitly.

Will our conversations be confidential?

Yes, within the boundaries agreed at the start and any legal or safeguarding obligations that apply. If the business is paying, we also agree what - if anything - is reported back.

How often do sessions happen?

That depends on what you need. A regular monthly or fortnightly rhythm can work well, while a specific challenge may need a shorter, concentrated series. We agree the format before starting.

How is mentoring priced?

We agree the session length, cadence and initial period, then provide a clear quote. Focused support can be scoped separately from an ongoing arrangement.
